Always Wear Sunscreen
May I suggest... mine?
As an acne specialist, I’m always hearing clients complain about sunscreen. They say the texture sucks, it feels sticky, or they think it breaks them out. And, honestly, I get it. A lot of sunscreens do contain comedogenic ingredients that can break you out! Sunscreen manufacturers primarily formulate with sun protection in mind; they don’t think about the acne safety around them. But sun protection is a vital part of skincare, and I think we’re finally a new era where people understand that.
We’re no longer accepting that sun protection has to equal a greasy formula that breaks you out. It should be an elegant formula that you want to use every single day, gives you the finish that you're looking for under makeup, and you feel happy to wear it. These were my criteria when developing our sunscreen, at least. (Shameless plug — it launched today!)
With our sunscreen, I really wanted to eliminate all of those barriers and excuses my clients have for not wearing it. Number one, I wanted it to have a really elegant texture that was hydrating, but not greasy, so that you could wear it as your hydration step. (I think layering sunscreen on top of moisturizer can feel too much on acne-prone skin.) Second, it needed to be formulated with non-comedogenic ingredients that wouldn’t break you out. And third, and most importantly, it had to work. It’s double tested to protect against UVA and UVBs, which is vital for all skin types, but it’s especially important for acne-prone skin.
All in, it took three years to develop and countless versions until it was just right. It takes a long time to develop sunscreen in the first place because it’s FDA-regulated, which means there’s a lot of testing and a lot of hoops to jump through to get it approved and ready for market. But it took even longer because we were so picky about the texture and were committed to using non-comedogenic ingredients, which complicates things because so many ingredients that make a really beautiful formula can, unfortunately, clog your pores. So we had to work hard to make it just right.
We also had it double tested for sun protection, clinically tested to be acne-safe, and worked closely with our clients at The Studio to make sure this was something they would love to use for protecting their skin. I made our sunscreen because I wanted to make something you wanted to put on everyday, but honestly I’m happy if you wear any form of sunscreen. The best sunscreen is the one you wear — but, of course, I hope you’ll pick mine. ;)
